Have you ever felt stuck on a problem all day or upset over something—even something trivial—that didn’t go your way? How much time do you spend rehashing those some thoughts over and over again in your mind, reflecting on all the negative things until they dominate your outlook and drain your energy and productivity for the rest ofthe day? The saying “when it rains, it pours” applies to such cycles of negativity. The more we focus on what we don’t have or what annoys us or other kinds of negative thoughts, the more they start building up and crowding out anything positive; that‘s a sure way to make ourselves more miserable!

One of the quickest and most effective ways to boost your energy is through your physiology. Just moving your body and getting some basic physical activity going can change your mood and mindset fairly quickly! Let’s look at some simple ways to change your physiology that won’t take much time:

  • Take a quick walk (preferably outside) or even indoors will help.
  • Practice deep belly breathing (long deep breaths from your belly instead of through your chest).
  • Stand up and stretch at your desk or in your office. Try doing this periodically throughout the day.
  • If you’re stuck on a problem. It can help to get a change of scenery from your current location. Moving to a new space will help to re-orient your perspective by getting both your mind and your body off the topic you are thinking about.

Start by allotting just a few minutes (three to five minutes) every hour or at a minimum, every two hours for some sort of physical exercise or at least step away from your workspace. This will not only keep your mindset positive but also your physiology active., as well as helping you to feel good all day long!
